⚠️ Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Jerusalem (Update: March 22, 2026)

The U.S. Embassy has updated departure options for U.S. citizens. Shelter-in-place directives remain in effect for all government employees and are recommended for all Americans in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.

🛫 Air Travel Updates

  • Ben Gurion (TLV): Operating on a highly limited basis with reduced capacity.

  • New Capacity Limits: * Wide-body (U.S. bound): Max 130 passengers (was 270).

    • Narrow-body: Max 120 passengers.

  • Action: Monitor your flight status closely for cancellations. Do not go to the airport without a confirmed ticket.

🚌 Land Departure Options (The Fastest Route)

The Embassy recommends overland travel to Jordan or Egypt as the most reliable current options.

1. Jordan (Northern Crossing)

  • Assisted Bus Service: Starting March 23, the Embassy is organizing buses from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to Amman International Airport.

  • Requirements: Fill out the online assistance form.

  • Costs: $60 USD for Visa (Cash only) + 110 NIS departure fee (Cash only).

2. Egypt (Taba Crossing)

  • Status: Open 24 hours.

  • Requirements: $30 USD for a 30-day visa + ~$25 USD for a letter of guarantee + $60 USD exit fee.

  • Note: Carry at least $115 USD in cash per person; ATMs at the border are unreliable.

🛡️ Safety & Operations

  • Shelter in Place: Maintain a supply of food, water, and medication. Stay away from windows.

  • Emergency Passports: Available at the Embassy (Jerusalem) and Branch Office (Tel Aviv) for walk-ins from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday–Friday.

  • Routine Services: Starting March 23, routine services are by appointment only. Visa services remain suspended.

Hey, Is the emergency passport renewal service still available? We have all the forms completed for dropping off in Tel Aviv. What is classified as "emergency"? Our passports will expire in late June, and the procedure is usually about 8 weeks, so late April will be approaching emergency status mode. We are getting a bit uptight. Suggestions?
