What is a CRBA appointment?

CRBA stands for Consulate Report a Birth Abroad. This appointment includes a first passport, a consulate report a birth abroad certificate, and a Social Security Card. On the embassy's site, the appointment is A and B. The Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) is a document issued by a U.S. embassy or consulate to document the birth of a child born abroad to U.S. citizen parents. This report serves as evidence of the child's U.S. citizenship. Here is an overview of the CRBA process: Eligibility: To apply for a CRBA, at least one of the child's parents must be a U.S. citizen at the time of the child's birth, and there must be a blood or legal relationship between the child and the U.S. citizen parent. Documentation: The parents must gather the required documents to support the application. These typically include: Proof of U.S. citizenship of the parent(s), such as a U.S. passport or birth certificate. Proof of the child's birth, such as a local birth certificate issued by the foreign country. Evidence of the parents' marriage (if applicable), such as a marriage certificate. Application: The parents need to schedule an appointment at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. It's advisable to contact the embassy or consulate in advance to understand their specific requirements and appointment procedures. Interview and Application Submission: During the appointment, the parents will need to provide the necessary documents, complete the required application forms, and pay the applicable fees. They may also be required to attend an interview with a consular officer. Review and Decision: The consular officer will review the application and supporting documents. If everything is in order, and the child meets the requirements for U.S. citizenship transmission, the CRBA will be approved. Passport Application: Once the CRBA is approved, the parents can apply for a U.S. passport for the child. This is typically done at the same embassy or consulate. The child's CRBA and passport applications may be processed concurrently. Return of Documents: After processing the CRBA and passport applications, the embassy or consulate will return the original documents submitted by the parents, such as the foreign birth certificate and marriage certificate (if applicable). These documents are crucial and should be kept in a secure place. It's important to note that the CRBA process can vary slightly depending on the embassy or consulate and the country where the child was born.

What is a Renewal appointment?

A passport renewal appointment at a U.S. embassy or consulate is a meeting scheduled to renew an expiring or expired U.S. passport while you are outside of the United States. The process typically involves the following steps: Appointment Scheduling: Contact the U.S. embassy or consulate in your current location to schedule a passport renewal appointment. Some embassies or consulates may require you to schedule the appointment online, while others may have specific instructions for appointment booking. Application Form: Prior to the appointment, you will need to complete Form DS-11, the U.S. Passport Renewal Application. This form can usually be downloaded from the website of the U.S. Department of State. Fill it out accurately and have it ready to submit during the appointment. Supporting Documents: Gather the required supporting documents for the passport renewal process. This typically includes: Your current or expired U.S. passport. A passport-sized photograph that meets the specific requirements set by the embassy or consulate. Documentation of a legal name change (if applicable), such as a marriage certificate or court order. Payment for the passport renewal fees. The fee amount can be obtained from the embassy or consulate. Appointment Day: Arrive at the U.S. embassy or consulate on the scheduled appointment day. Be prepared to go through security checks, including presenting identification documents and undergoing any required screenings. Document Submission: During the appointment, submit your completed Form DS-82, current or expired U.S. passport, passport-sized photograph, documentation of name change (if applicable), and payment for the renewal fees. The consular officer will review the documents and process your application. Additional Steps: Depending on the embassy or consulate, you may be required to provide additional information or undergo an interview with a consular officer. This is typically done to verify your identity or clarify any details in the application. Passport Collection: Once the passport renewal process is complete, you will be informed about when and how to collect your new passport. This may involve returning to the embassy or consulate at a designated time or receiving the passport by mail or courier service.
